BIPOC Yoga as Community Practice
Sahar
The mission for Queer and BIPOC communities to survive and thrive over the next few years has become infinitely more challenging since the inauguration. Given the global rise against our existence, it is up to us to care for ourselves, and each other. The mind/body/soul connection needs care, healing, and nurturing so that we can stay in the fight for our self-determination and reclamation of our humanity.
Please join us for this very special Pop Out which will include a live yoga class with Sahar after a brief introductory discussion with Carlos.
Wear comfortable clothing and have a place on the floor to stretch out where you can see your computer. If you have them, bring a yoga mat or blanket, maybe a couple of small pillows, and water.
This live session is being offered as an affinity space for Black, Indigenous and People of Color only and will not be recorded.
Hope to see you there!
Sahar (they/she), I was born in Tehran, Iran and primarily raised in Vienna, Austria. My practice and offerings are informed by my diasporic upbringing and rooted in values of collective care, solidarity, abolition and true justice. I wholeheartedly reject spiritual bypassing and believe we all have an obligation to remain present with and respond to the injustices of the world. I do not believe movement or the right yoga class or Pilates session will solve all your problems or make the world a more just place, but I do believe that showing up for ourselves and our bodies, taking the time to take deep, intentional breaths and moving our bodies will create discipline and ease within ourselves, allowing us to show up as our whole selves to better take on the injustices of the world.
The Pop Out with Carlos & Community
Each month Carlos Kareem Windham will host a new guest with a fresh perspective and set of applicable skills to help us navigate the inherited sea of racialized trauma in which we all find ourselves. We are going to build community, refine praxis, and most importantly, reclaim and assert our humanity!
The Pop Out with Carlos & Community is a free community event, registration is required.
