The Pop Out - WE X Community Outreach

Wednesday December 11
11AM - 12:30pm, Zoom

INDIGENOUS APPROACHES TO ORGANIZING FOR EQUITY IN RURAL OREGON
Jolene Estimo, We X Community Outreach

We X Community Outreach, comprised of 30+ volunteers throughout Central Oregon, is POC-led and works from an Indigenous worldview. We X partners with other community groups to conduct nonpartisan voter outreach, community assessments and other community-building activities, while centering the region’s Tribal and Latinx communities. Members meet online once per month to foster more authentic and effective cross-cultural engagement in Central Oregon.

In this session, Jolene Estimo will introduce the We X approach to organizing for equity in Rural Oregon and Washington, and share some of the lessons learned along the way.

Jolene Estimo, is a founder of We X Community Outreach, a member of the Palouse and Wasco Bands of Indians and a citizen of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Oregon. She provides leadership to We X People of Color and white allies grounded in an Indigenous worldview, utilizing her decolonized mainstream graduate degree. She incorporates several indigenous tools such as tribal dialogue, centering community, rather than the self, storytelling and oral protocols following indigenous teachings, not mainstream social justice agendas.

She is a social entrepreneur, utilizing 30 years experience managing tribal and non-profit programs from community and strategic planning, fund development, delivery of cross-cultural training including asset building and employment life skills. As she transitions into an Elder role her focus is to support the next generation of leadership. She works across cultures more broadly through We X and her private consulting practice, Renegade Training and Consulting. Jolene went to school and lived in urban areas for over 25 years, and transitioned to serve on the front lines of equity in northwest tribal and rural Oregon communities for most of her career.
